The Enablers

One day, not too long ago, four over-seasoned musicians went into a studio and started playing. And before long they were smiling. They’d stumbled on to the kind of chemistry that’s all too rare in bands, but they knew they had it. And when you see them play, you’ll know it too.

All four have been playing and performing since they were kids—in school, in their hometowns, in big cities, and in south Florida, both professionally and semi-professionally—so they know what makes a song sound great, what makes a crowd happy, and what makes a show fun.

Because fun is the thing. Maximum fun. Fun on stage, fun in the crowd, fun on the dance floor. It’s good times with a great soundtrack. Maximum fun is what The Enablers enable.

The Enablers setlist draws from most every decade of rock and roll, and even the best of classic country. You’ll hear plenty of 60’s British Invasion, 70’s classic rock, 80’s new wave, 90’s alternative, and more (“Hey, was that Waylon?!”). If you’re a music fan, you’ll know the bands whose music they play. And don’t be surprised if you hear a few B-sides and deep cuts you forgot you knew!

The Band

Brett Steele

Warbler

A local boy, born and raised in Miami, Brett’s earliest musical influences ranged from American folk to British Invasion to classic rock and 70’s disco.

Coming from a musical family—his father and other ancestors as far back as anyone can remember were musicians—Brett was actually inspired to pick up his first guitar by a hermit in the Appalachian mountains. As Brett tells it, “He was a childhood friend of my grandmother and he must’ve been in his 80’s. I couldn't understand a word he sang, but I fell in love with his expression. I was 14.”

Self-taught from day one, Brett’s intricate and rhythmic guitar style is the perfect accompaniment for his solo work and for The Enablers. Based in Palm Beach Gardens, Brett has played professionally since 1990 in venues from Key West to Fort Pierce. In addition to The Enablers, you can find him playing solo (occasionally joined by an Enabler or two), and hosting area open mic nights.

Steve Dunlap

Bottom

Originally from the south side of Chicago, Steve was raised around a culturally diverse music scene, witnessing the greatest to ever play the blues (Muddy, Buddy, BB, Koko, Stevie to name a few).

From living room jams, to corner bars, to local festivals featuring world greats, Steve's exposure to this music would shape his taste, style, rhythm, and affinity for blues and rock.

Beginning on piano as a kid, then switching to guitar and playing the circuit of the tri-state area, Steve would relocate to Jupiter in 2000 and find his calling as a bass guitarist.

With 20+ years’ experience performing at venues on the east coast and south Florida, you may have seen him perform as a member of Relief Squad, Nautica, The Evil Monkeys, Big Jam Theory, The Blunatics, and The Happiness Club Band.

Greg Sherman

Twanger

The newest of The Enablers to the area’s music scene, Greg brings to the band his love for jangly-guitar, harmony-driven, three-minute power pop songs from every era.

Greg began playing guitar at age 8, and spent half his life in Manhattan’s East Village, recording and playing in various original bands at iconic NYC venues like CBGB’s, Kenny’s Castaways, and Café Wha?.

Arriving in Stuart in 2020, Greg was blown away by the enthusiasm of the area’s music community, fans and musicians alike, and was privileged to play in area bands like The Smokeboss Militia and Nip & Tuck. Along the way he met the three other Enablers, sharing a love of great tunes from every era of rock & roll, and the desire to play fun music wherever people want to listen!

Andy Koval

Hits Stuff with Sticks

Andy, a seasoned drummer with a dynamic career spanning over 40 years, first burst on to Cleveland's vibrant music scene at the tender age of 16. Professionally trained for 5 years, his rhythm and beats have been the heartbeat of countless performances, echoing through bars, studios, and large venues alike.

Renowned for his exceptional “pocket” —a term used to describe a drummer's impeccable groove—Andy’s drumming instinctively gets your feet tapping and heart racing. After leaving his mark for decades in Cleveland, Andy brought his drumming prowess to the sunny shores of Hobe Sound. In the Sunshine State, he's become a staple of the south Florida music circuit, holding down the backbeat for The Blunatics and other bands, and continuing to energize and inspire with every beat.
